Danske Bank, Hamburg Branch
Financial Translation · English ↔ German · Banking Sector
Danske Bank's Hamburg branch required complete translation of their digital banking platform, compliance documentation, and customer communications from English to German. The project demanded absolute precision in financial terminology and strict adherence to German banking regulations (MaRisk, BAIT, KAIT).
The Challenge
Banking translations require absolute accuracy, a single wrong number or term can have legal consequences. Danske Bank needed their entire digital platform localized, including complex financial products, terms and conditions, and risk disclosures, all while meeting BaFin regulatory requirements.
Our Solution
We assigned a team of 4 financial translators with banking certifications and BaFin knowledge. We implemented a three-step quality process: translation, financial expert review, and compliance verification. A dedicated project manager coordinated daily with Danske Bank's legal team.
The Result
The translated platform passed BaFin compliance review on the first submission with zero findings. Customer satisfaction scores for German-language users increased by 34%. Danske Bank expanded the contract to include Danish and Swedish localization.
Project Scope
- Online banking platform UI and UX text (85,000 words)
- Terms and conditions for 12 financial products (60,000 words)
- Risk disclosure statements and KIID documents (45,000 words)
- Customer support chatbot training data (70,000 words)
- Marketing materials and email campaigns (50,000 words)
- Internal compliance manuals and training (40,000 words)
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Every document underwent regulatory compliance checking against German banking law. We maintained a detailed audit trail of all terminology decisions. The project included back-translation verification of all legally binding documents. Our quality assurance process achieved ISO 17100 certification standards throughout.
Localization Beyond Translation
Beyond words, we adapted currency formats, date conventions, and numerical separators to German standards. We localized interest rate examples to reflect German market conditions and adapted customer personas in marketing materials to match German banking customer profiles.
In banking, precision is everything. This team understood that from day one. Their knowledge of German financial regulations was as impressive as their linguistic skills. The fact that we passed BaFin review without a single correction speaks volumes about their quality.
